The outreach camp funded by SESTAA in Goalpara, Assam (India) has been suspended since March 2020 due to challenges posed by the novel coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). It has not been possible to conduct face-to-face services due to difficulties associated in travel and other lockdown restrictions.
From April 2020, however, field worker and therapists have contacted the families of the children via phone and video calls. The therapy team is in touch with many of them regularly and have been offering advice on therapy and other general counsel. In addition, the therapists have recently started individual sessions with a couple of children. Follow up is done fortnightly over the phone, with the issues discussed covering the financial status of the family, present status of the child, therapy inputs and counselling to the parents.
From the month of July 2020, Shishu Sarothi – SESTAA’s partner – has started weekly online therapy sessions via Zoom for parents. The online session comprises counselling, therapy demonstrations where the parents practice the exercises along with the therapist, general discussion and a question and answer session.
